Audio and Record 2

After receiving feedback on the piece we set back to work in recording better sounds than before mainly fish and water sounds to create at better aquatic atmosphere, such as water droplets, fish pops, fish food droplets, swirls and splashes. The sounds recorded before had a lot of background noise from traffic, during this recording we recorded in a different room and checked for background noise levels before recording.

In the second edit I used the swirls and fish pops as an atmos track to create the aquatic environment  I only added a slight reverb to keep with he underwater theme but to also highlight the fish as inside of the bowl, where as the sounds outside had a less clarity and more reverb. I decided this time to create a large sense of build up, similar to the that of the short film Tango. As one sound was playing such as the microwave another started i.e the kettle or computer, until the scene built up to a loud and busy party.

To target the clarity problem I didn't apply so much editing int he EQ, but instead applied a better reverb and manipulated the latch mode to ral time edit the volume and pan features to make sounds such as footsteps get closer and further away in the mix.

Also I had read into underwater sound recording on http://filmsound.org/QA/underwatersounds.htm , on the site it had been suggetsed by many sound artists to wrap a condom around a normal acoustic microphone to record underwater instead of the hydrophone. We were keen to experiment with these techniques. Overall we were pleased with some of the sounds that came out, many of which helped create an atmos track and helped me edit clean sounds to sound like the udnerwater ones.

During this recording session we experimented with some foley recording. We found that fish food was to quiet on the water surface so we used rice instead to get the desired effect. We also used a wide cardboard cylinder to blow deep bubbles under the water to create more atmos and fish sounds.
