DOCUMENTARY- SKATEISTAN

I really enjoyed Skateistan, both as a film and as a message. The strong message of the film i thought was beautifully carried by the aesthetics of the camera work and tight edit. I really found the quick edits between close ups of th harsh way of life and smooth skateboarding shots worked great especially with the shallow depth of field.
What I found most interesting was the non sync sound, where the contributor would be talking but the camera would be showing really nice crafted and composed shots of the environment or of the skateboarders. This allowed the viewer to be taken back by the visually pleasing art shots but also be hit hard by the message the dialogue was talking about, especially when bombed out buildings were being juxtaposed with shots of the skate park.
